Swimming Lessons

Please Note: Parents/Guardians are responsible for the supervision of their children in the locker rooms and on pool grounds, and they must remain on-site for the duration of the lesson.

We recommend visiting a pool facility and getting in the water with your child to determine their precise level of swimming abilities. Please use the swimming level descriptions below to choose the best group for your child. We will not have any spare room in the non-swimmer sections if a child cannot swim and needs to be moved out of the beginner group.

Please waitlist your child for only one skill level. If your child is waitlisted for every skill level available, we may not be able to place them if a spot opens up.

Swimming Skill Levels:

Non-Swimmers: This program is designed for children who do not know how to swim but are NOT afraid of the water. Students should be able to work in a small group for 30 minutes and follow the instructor’s instructions. The emphasis of the program is familiarity with the water, including putting faces in the water, basic floating skills, breathing into the water, correct flutter kicking, kicking with a kickboard, and rotating from chest to back. Students will learn to swim on their backs.

Beginners: The beginners' program is designed for children with some swimming experience who can swim at least 10 yards, regardless of stroke, time, or breathing pattern. Beginners will focus on learning proper breathing techniques and how to swim longer distances without stopping. Students will be introduced to backstroke and freestyle.

Advanced Beginners: The advanced beginners’ program is designed for children who can swim 20 yards using any stroke across the width of the pool unassisted. There is no time requirement. Goals of the advanced beginners' program include swimming backstroke 20 yards unassisted, swimming freestyle 20 yards unassisted using an effective breathing pattern, swimming at least two pool widths unassisted, and learning breaststroke and butterfly techniques.
